San Diego City Councilmember David Alvarez endorses Paul Kerr for Congress in CA-49

July 20, 2017

San Diego, CA- Today, San Diego City Councilmember David Alvarez endorsed Paul Kerr for Congress in California’s 49th Congressional District. Alvarez is known as a progressive leader for San Diego.

“I know that Paul will be a great representative for all the people of San Diego County. Paul will stand up for our Southern California immigrant population,” said Alvarez. “Both Paul and I were the first in our family to graduate from college, so I know he will fight to make college more affordable for lower-income and middle class families. Paul will be a strong partner and advocate for San Diego at the Federal level.”

“I am proud and honored to have the support of a strong leader like Councilmember David Alvarez,” said Paul Kerr. “Democrats want a candidate who can defeat Darrell Issa and deliver real results for San Diego County, and once elected, I will work closely with our local officials to ensure their voice is heard in Washington.”

Paul was raised in a middle-class community by working-class parents. He’s lived in San Diego for over 43 years. He’s an enlisted Vietnam-era Navy Veteran, who served on a destroyer out of San Diego, that patrolled off the coast of Vietnam shortly after that war ended. Paul is a proud alumnus of San Diego State University, but despite working full-time through college, he still graduated with over $20,000 of student loan debt. For the past 20 years, Paul has been an owner of a successful San Diego-based business.

California’s 49th Congressional District stretches from UCSD and in northern, coastal San Diego County to Dana Point in the southern region of Orange County.
